CDC | Doctors & Nurses - The Medical Trio

'The Medical Trio' began as an idea for a Character Design Challenge featuring Doctors & Nurses. Based on my friend in the US who recently started her medical degree, it features some favourite furry assistants. Coincidentally Sky News released an article titled "Coronavirus: Could a llama hold the key to treating COVID-19" which made it all perfect. It’s great, despite the scrubs and mask, you can still capture so much character through body language, personal items, expression and colour.

Unfortunately, I was very late for the deadline as I started the piece quite late. All was not lost as I finished and gifted to a friend whom this piece is based on!

For this piece, you can see I've utilised Blender, which I've been learning. I like to combine the use of project-based learning, setting a deadline via challenge or gift as a means push myself. I created base models on 3DS Max as I'm very familiar with modelling there and used Blender for every other part; sculpting, shaders, texturing, texture painting, rigging via Rigify, posing, lighting, framing, rendering, etc.

Final piece!

WIP of the Doctor in training. I thoroughly enjoy putting someone whose self in the piece. I modelled and painted her actual shoes, lanyard, pens, makeup, hairstyle, and scrubs to really personalise the piece!

WIP - close up of Doctor in Training. I wanted to achieve her likeness in 3D but I knew I'd be painting over in Photoshop to get my desired result so I was quick about the sculpting and base shapes.
