Commission | Peter Mckay's Dungeons & Dragons Group

So this Dungeons and Dragons commission was a hefty task. It was the first full group of characters I have ever been tasked with and a short turnaround considering full-time work! I managed to complete it in time and learnt quite a lot in the process!

In the supplementary images, you can see my process, from sketch to 2D, the use of 3D and photo references to maximise the quality of the final piece.

After the initial sketch phase, I wanted to improve overall posing, layout, props, perspective and interaction between characters so I took advantage of the biped's in 3DS Max and used those to set proportions and heights of each character and set the scene, following my 2D sketch and WIP. This proved to be a powerful tool for managing big scenes and more complex 2D images. A lack of drawing skills or references in certain areas and be remedied with 3D so long as you know roughly what you want to achieve.

The final product! Time ran out but I got this far, wished I added some minor shadow work and a few more props but I'm satisfied with the project overall :)

On to Photoshop. Monk was moved closer, Phaedra was drawn, redesigned and added in.

initial sketche! It's missing Phaedra the woman on the far right, her original sketch is beyond terrible and belongs inside a garbage fire.

3DS Max - posed scene V1
Extra bonus to blocking out in 3D, the camera, you get so many extra uses and intimate moments doing this you can see the power and potential for storytelling when it comes to film & animation.

A breakdown of my creation stages and process, not including other reference images and inspirational art! I love acting out the poses and a quick camera set up and timer makes for insanely quick results.
